Neuropsychological Assessment
What is it and why is it important?
A neuropsychological assessment is a comprehensive evaluation designed to understand an individual’s cognitive strengths and challenges in depth.
Using standardised tests and clinical interviews, we explore various areas of cognitive function, including memory, attention, reasoning, language, social cognition, visual-spatial skills, and executive functions (such as planning and organisation). We also assess emotional and behavioural factors that may be affecting everyday life.
This type of assessment is essential for identifying learning difficulties, neurodevelopmental conditions, the after-effects of brain injuries, or early signs of cognitive decline linked to ageing.
The results provide crucial insights that support an accurate diagnosis and help us develop personalised strategies to enhance quality of life.
Children and Adolescents
At our centre, we recognise how important early identification and support are for a child’s development.
If your child shows signs of impulsivity or hyperactivity, struggles to focus at school, lacks motivation or interest, finds reading or writing challenging, or has difficulties in social settings, a neuropsychological assessment may be beneficial.
A proper assessment can uncover developmental concerns and guide tailored interventions to support their learning, behaviour, and overall well-being.
Adults
We offer neuropsychological assessments for adults who may be experiencing cognitive, emotional, or behavioural changes.
If you’ve noticed difficulties with memory, attention, or language, have experienced a brain injury (such as a stroke or head trauma), suspect a previously undiagnosed condition like ADHD or autism, or are concerned about possible cognitive decline or dementia, a neuropsychological assessment can provide clarity and help guide appropriate treatment or support.
These assessments help to detect, define, and measure specific difficulties, guiding accurate diagnosis and enabling the creation of personalised support plans.
What is Neuropsychological Intervention?
Neuropsychological intervention is designed to improve or compensate for cognitive, emotional, or behavioural difficulties resulting from disruptions in cognitive processing.
At our centre, we develop tailored intervention programmes based on each person’s unique needs and the outcomes of their neuropsychological assessment.
Intervention may include cognitive rehabilitation or stimulation exercises, training in social and emotional skills, compensatory strategy development, and psychological support. The aim is to foster greater independence, improve daily functioning, and enhance overall quality of life.
This type of intervention is particularly suitable in cases such as:
Neurodevelopmental conditions (e.g. ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, nonverbal learning difficulties, communication disorders, intellectual disability, and specific learning difficulties).
Acquired brain injuries (e.g. stroke, traumatic brain injury, brain tumours).
Neurodegenerative conditions (e.g. Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s).
Age-related cognitive decline.
Dementias.
Emotional disorders that affect cognitive performance (e.g. anxiety, depression, chronic pain).
